GridClip Privacy Policy

Effective date: 29 August 2026
Product: GridClip, a Chrome extension that exports visible HTML tables from the current tab to a local spreadsheet file or the clipboard.
Publisher: Devin Reckart, Individual publisher.

If we change how GridClip handles data after you install it, we will disclose that in the product UI (not only here), consistent with the Chrome Web Store Disclosure Requirements policy.

Single purpose

GridClip’s single purpose is to export visible HTML tables on the tab you invoked into a spreadsheet (CSV, and Excel for paid subscribers) or onto the clipboard. It does not scrape the web in the background, inject ads, or change search.

What GridClip reads on your device

When you click the toolbar icon, use the “GridClip: export this table” context menu, or (paid) press Alt+Shift+E, GridClip reads visible HTML <table> elements on that tab only. Hidden and zero-size tables are skipped.

That table text is used only to:

Table contents, page HTML, and browsing history never leave the device. They are not uploaded to GridClip and are not sent to Polar. Files are written locally (browser download) or to the clipboard.

Chrome Web Store policy treats this local read of website content as “handling user data,” even though it never leaves the device. That is why this policy exists for the free extension as well.

Free vs paid

Free

Paid ($36/year)

Polar is used only when you unlock Pro. Opening checkout or activating a license contacts Polar. GridClip does not call Polar for CSV export, Copy table, or any other free action. Polar sees email and payment details only if you unlock Pro.

Paid checkout is provided by Polar Software, Inc. (“Polar”), which acts as merchant of record (authorized reseller). Google does not sell GridClip and does not process the payment.

Polar — not GridClip — collects what it needs to take payment and run the subscription, typically:

See Polar’s own policies:

Unlock Pro in GridClip does two things, both only after you choose them:

If Polar returns status === granted, GridClip stores in chrome.storage.local (key polarLicense): the license key you pasted, Polar’s status string, a paid true/false flag, and a local timestamp. That cache is used so Pro stays unlocked and so GridClip can re-check the same key later. GridClip does not store your email, Polar customer id, or payment card. Polar does not receive table contents, page contents, or browsing history from GridClip.

Permissions

PermissionUse
activeTabRead the tab you just invoked. No standing host access.

There are no host_permissions and no <all_urls> content script.

Sharing

We do not sell user data. We do not use table contents for advertising.

The only third party involved in paid subscriptions is Polar (merchant of record), for email, payment, and license status as described above — and only when you unlock Pro.

We may disclose information if required by law, to prevent fraud or abuse, or as part of a merger or sale of assets with prior notice where required.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

User data GridClip handles is used only to provide or improve the single purpose above (including securing and operating paid entitlement). It is not used for personalized ads, not sold to data brokers, and not used for credit-worthiness.

Security

License checks with Polar use HTTPS. GridClip does not store payment card data. Table export never requires a network call.

Retention

Children

GridClip is not directed at children under 13. Polar does not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13.
